Spring Term 2009
Our topic this term is eating healthily and thinking about healthy lifestyles. We have been looking at persuasive writing and thinking about how to encourage people to buy milk. Our class wrote this argument:
We think you should buy milk.

Milk makes you grow, gives you strength and is really good for your health. If you don’t drink milk you could have health problems.
Rory wrote:
I think that you should buy milk. This is because milk contains calcium. Your body needs calcium because it helps our teeth and bones to get stronger. It helps us live longer and stay stronger. If you didn’t have calcium your bones might break and your teeth would rot.
Elliot wrote:
I think that you should buy milk because it has vitamin B in it. Vitamin B helps build strong red blood cells. If you don’t drink milk you won’t have strong red blood cells and you won’t be able to breathe very well. You will find it hard to run and play.
Chris wrote:
I think you should buy milk because it has zinc in it. The zinc helps your body fight bacteria and germs. I also think that you should buy milk because it has potassium in it. Potassium helps your nerves to function.
Olivia wrote:
I think you should buy milk. This is because milk contains phosphorus. Phosphorus helps you to release energy. Without phosphorus you will have all the energy but won’t be able to use it. I also think that you should buy milk because milk contains magnesium. Your body needs magnesium to help your muscles move. Without it your muscles will become very stiff and weak and you won’t be able to move or play different games.
Luka wrote:
I think you should buy milk. This is because it milk contains riboflavin. Your body needs riboflavin because it helps keep your skin healthy. If you don’t have riboflavin you would have flaky rashes, dark red spots and you will itch horribly.
Matthew W wrote:
I think you should buy milk. This is because milk has protein in it and protein helps you grow and repair parts of your body. I also think you should buy milk because it has carbohydrate in it. Carbohydrates give your body energy.
Thomas T wrote:
You should have at least three portions of milk a day. Our milk costs 15p a day and you can buy it in the Junior playground. For 20p on Friday, the milk will come with a cookie.
So don’t delay, drink milk today.
We also designed posters to persuade our friends to buy milk. Here are some examples:

Autumn Term 2008

This term our topic is The Celts. We have looked at how the Celts lived. We visited a Celtic hillfort at Castell Henllys.
On Thursday 25th September 2008, 3D, 3H and the STF went to Castell Henllys. When we arrived, we went to the time machine and were taken back in time to the time of the Celts. We had a talk about life during that time. Next we walked to a Round house and did some weaving. We weaved baskets using straw. The straw was hard so it was put in water to soften it, then we could use it for weaving. Weaving was fun.
After that we walked to a different Roundhouse to make bread. We used flour, water and seeds. We put some flour in a bowl and made a hole in the middle, we poured in some water and mixed the flour and water with our hands until we made a dough. Next we kneeded the dough and made sausage shapes, we left it to cook near the warm fire. The smell made us hungry. Next we had lunch. After lunch we went to visit the Chief where we had our faces painted in patterns like the Celts.
Then we went to throw cow muck, mixed with horse hair and clay at a house to keep the house warm on the inside. The houses were made from clay, straw, sticks, branches, cows muck, horse hair and water. The roof was made from weaved straw. This was made on the ground like a hat then popped on to the top of the house.

We thought about what would be needed to make a good hillfort. We worked in tribes - Silures, Iceni, Ordovices and Brigantes to design our own hillfort. We decided we needed - a hill, water or a stream for drinking and fishing, a forest for wood for building, fields for grazing animals and growing crops.

During our outdoor learning lessons in the Dell, we have been thinking about building roundhouses. We tried to make our own roundhouses and practised weaving sticks and grasses.
In ICT we have been looking at different font styles, sizes and colours, as well as graphics. We used Microsoft Photostory 3 to create our own videos about the trip to Castell Henllys. Please see the attachments below for an example of our work.
